The training sets out the laws and regulations for people carrying out road works and how to apply the rules to various snow clearance and winter road maintenance operations. The competence requirements are intended to contribute to a good and safe working environment and to safe and accessible traffic for third parties. Competence requirements for winter road maintenance apply in procured basic contracts.
Aim of the course:
This course aims to prepare drivers who will be performing practical winter road maintenance in road classes 1-3 to meet the Swedish Transport Administration's certification requirements. Upon completion of the course, participants will have the knowledge and skills required to successfully pass the certification exam.
Target group
This course is aimed at, among other things, those who will work on roads with road maintenance, plowing, salting & snow removal and who will perform the test at the Swedish Transport Administration.
Drivers carrying out practical winter road maintenance in road classes 1-3 must be competent for the task. The required competence shall be certified by a certification test according to the competence requirements below.
Know the methods, equipment and materials suitable for varying weather and road conditions and independently perform winter road maintenance in practice.
- Load-bearing machinery and its field of application.
- Plow types; suitability for different types of weather and roads. For example, types of plow blade, suitability for different road conditions, coupling, plow and blade settings.
- Salt spreading methods, suitability for different types of weather and road conditions. For example, loading, operation, adjustment, calibration of salt spreaders. Appropriate quantities and widths for salting.
- Mechanical de-icing, suitability for different types of weather and roads, appropriate materials and quantities.
- Difference in principle for winter road maintenance between winter road classes 1-3, 4-5 and GC road.
- Basic meteorology, such as temperature, humidity, precipitation/precipitation types, wind, air pressure, hot/cold fronts and the impact of road conditions on accessibility and road safety.
- Principles of preventive anti-slip measures.
The certification is valid for 6 years.
